Murphy: A Time Travel Love Story - Kannada Movie Review

The first time I came across anything related to this movie was through a music video featuring the song "Mogachi." This song is the quintessential upbeat track that I knew would be used for the movie's marketing, and indeed it was. Watching this video made me excited for the film, especially since it starred a cast of actors with whom I wasn't familiar. I love seeing new faces in the industry, so I quickly checked out the summary and learned that it was a time travel movie, which instantly locked me in.

The story follows David, a college student who lives with his grandfather after his father passed away when he was young. We quickly learn that his grandfather owns a beautiful old radio that works sporadically. For his grandfather's birthday, David decides to fix the radio, but things go awry when he accidentally breaks it entirely. Just as he is about to give up, he hears a girl's voice, and it turns out she lives in the '90s while David lives in the present day. The remainder of the movie revolves around discovering who this girl is and why she and David can communicate with each other.

The performances in this film were somewhat melodramatic, with many characters feeling heavy-handed, which made certain moments hard to watch. However, the standout performance came from Roshni Prakash, who plays Janani. Every time she appeared on-screen, she made her presence felt, and her performance seemed effortless, especially in contrast to the other actors' more exaggerated portrayals.

Where this movie truly excels is in its visuals. With Mangalore serving as the backdrop, the film showcases breathtaking landscape shots and panoramic views. Honestly, the city itself becomes a main character in this story—the beauty of Mangalore cannot be overstated.

There are only three songs in the film, so there's not much to discuss regarding the music. Nevertheless, as I mentioned earlier, "Mogachi" is the standout track and is genuinely catchy.

This movie explores themes of love and the lengths to which one will go for it.

Overall, if you’ve never seen a time travel movie and are unfamiliar with the genre, you might find this film very interesting—it could be absolutely fascinating. However, for those familiar with the genre, it may come across as somewhat predictable. Still, it does have a compelling love story at its core. If you're in the mood for a little romance, you should definitely check this out!
