The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman – A Trivia Nerd’s Dream Read
One group of people I've always been envious of is trivia nerds. How awesome is it to have your head filled with random facts about absolutely anything? Okay, so maybe it's not as useful as saving a life like a doctor or as cool as driving a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am—which is a stick shift, might I add—but that's still a skill I’d love to have. And after reading this book, I want that skill more than ever.
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna – A Cozy Book for Cold Winter Nights
This book follows the lovable Mika Moon, a YouTube witch by day and an actual witch by night. One day, she’s invited to tutor a young witch in need of guidance, but as soon as she accepts the job, she realizes the task isn’t quite what she signed up for. On top of that, she finds herself intrigued by the gruff and brooding Jamie.
Evvie Drake Starts Over Review: A Heartfelt, Slow-Burn Romance Worth Reading
Back in the day, I was an avid Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast fan. One of the hosts, Linda Holmes, is the author of the book I’m reviewing today. From the moment I heard Linda’s voice coming through my headphones, I knew I had found my people—she had the voice of an older sister who always has your back. And while I don’t listen to the podcast anymore, Linda still holds a special place in my heart.
Over the years, I had heard that Linda had written a book and that people really liked it, but for whatever reason, I never picked it up. Until last week—when I kicked myself for not reading Evvie Drake Starts Over sooner.
Starling House by Alix E. Harrow – A Must-Read Gothic Thriller?
I recently read Alix E. Harrow's Starling House, a retelling of the Classic. This book follows Opal, a young woman in a small town who has seen nothing but misfortune in her life as she goes to work for a Mysterious man who lives in a mysterious house. While there, she slowly uncovers the dark truth about the young man, the house, and her past.
I recently read The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman and LOVED it—so much so that I immediately picked up her other book, Christa Comes Out of Her Shell. About halfway through, I found myself thinking, “OMG, I really like this book too.”
And like any normal, rational, totally chill person... I decided I needed to read all of Abbi Waxman’s books.
